About GTCC

Grayson Tourism & Convention Commission is a non-profit organization in Grayson, KY.

The Visitor Center, a restored cabin located at 200 N. Carol Malone Blvd, next to Grayson Gallery & Art Center, is hard to miss as you drive along Carol Malone Blvd toward the city of Grayson, the county seat of Carter County, KY.

Mission

The City of Grayson Tourism & Convention Commission’s purpose is to promote, develop, and expand the existing and potential tourism, recreation, and convention industry in an effort to contribute to the economic and cultural growth of the city of Grayson, Kentucky and Carter County.

History

The initial meeting for the City of Grayson Tourism and Convention Commission was held on July 1, 1997. The group of seven members initially met at the City Building, then later at the Holiday Inn Express.
The Pot of Gold Antique Show and Sales was sponsored by the commission from 1998 through 2009. This brought hundreds of people into Grayson each year.
The commission built a pumpkin tree to be a part of Funtoberfest in the early years, and schools classes and individuals competed for prizes.
The US Route 60 yard sale started as a one-day event in 2002 and soon became a two-day event.

The Tourism Commission co-chaired the Grayson Leadership Conference in 2002 with the Chamber of Commerce, paying for the main speakers. The East Kentucky Leadership Conference in 2004 was given a Fund Grant.

The Cabin

It was decided that an official meeting place was needed, and the search was on for a  log cabin to move to the park. The logs had to be stored while we obtained bids for construction. The cabin with office upstairs was finally completed in 2005.

Grayson Gallery and Art Center

The old fire station was purchased from the City of Grayson and now houses the Grayson Gallery and Art Center.
